Our visit to the Ōamaru Victorian Heritage Celebrations reminded me that sustainability is not only about nature and society, but also about culture. Watching the town come alive with music, costumes, vintage bicycles and heartfelt community pride showed how heritage can bring people together and keep stories alive across generations.

As parents, we often focus on caring for others and forget to care for ourselves. During Mental Health Awareness Week, I’m sharing a few simple practices that help me stay calm and grounded — from daily meditation to learning to “let it pass” and making time just for me. Because our wellbeing matters too, and being kind to ourselves is part of raising happier families.
